The Governing Body
Government Regulations require all Primary Schools in England to appoint a Governing Body to oversee the delivery of education and ensure its quality.
The Governing Body has three core duties:
● Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
● Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff
● Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure money is well spent
School governors take an individual interest in the school and use their skills and experience both to check on how things are being done and to support the staff where appropriate.
Governors are allocated specific roles related both to the school curriculum and wider responsibilities such as safeguarding or financial management.
The Governing Body meets in full twice a term and at other times where necessary.
Simon Baldwin
Chair of Governors
Simon is a Foundation Governor nominated by the Parish Church. He has lived in Stoke
St Gregory for 0ver 40 years. Both his children attended the village school. He is now
retired after a long career in Health and Social Care services across Somerset.
Reverend Simon Bale
Ex-officio Governor
Simon is the Vicar of the Athelney Benefice, which includes the churches in Stoke St Gregory as well as Lyng, Burrowbridge and North Curry. He has been a governor of various schools over the past twenty years, including nursery, primary and secondary phases. He was chair of governors at St Mary Redcliffe and Temple School in Bristol. Simons main role in school is to act as a chaplain and to liaise with the staff over all kinds of church related activities and events.
Sonya Setchell
Co-opted Governor
Sonya is a co-opted governor. She is the minister of Stoke St Gregory Baptist Church and is delighted to have the opportunity to serve the school and village in this way.
