Shine Time

Our vision - 'Let Your Light Shine' - calls us to recognise and nurture the light in every child. Shine Time is designed to bring this vision to life through a rich programme of enrichment, leadership, and spiritual development. Shine Time offers children opportunities to explore their gifts and passions in sports, the arts, STEM, and community service, empowering them to flourish and make a difference.

Curriculum Enrichment and Equity

Shine Time responds to our call for curriculum excellence by extending learning beyond the classroom and the regular curriculum. It provides high-quality, inclusive enrichment that nurtures talents that may not be visible in traditional academic subjects. Activities are carefully planned to develop resilience, collaboration, and curiosity, key learning behaviours identified in our STOKERS. Children reflect on their experiences and express themselves through creative and collaborative projects. This supports children's personal and spiritual development, embedding values into lived experience.

Community Engagement and Leadership

Aligned with our vision for increased collaboration between the school and the local community, Shine Time is the vehicle for our Community Heroes initiative. Children work with local groups, the church, charities and members of the community to serve and celebrate their community, both local and wider, building pride, empathy, and a sense of belonging. Through acts of service, children learn that their light can bring joy and hope to others. Leadership roles within Shine Time (e.g. older children working with and supporting younger children) further develop pupil voice and responsibility.

A Culture of Flourishing

Shine Time is more than an enrichment slot. It is a culture-shaping initiative that reflects our belief that every child has a light to shine. It nurtures character, deepens relationships, and celebrates the whole child. Through Shine Time, we aim to create a joyful, purposeful space where children grow in confidence, compassion, and courage, ready to shine within and beyond our school gates.

Friday Afternoons
  • Shine Time takes place on Friday afternoons from 2.25 - 3.15 with children across KS2 mixed into a minimum of 3 groups led by teachers, sports coaches and visitors from the community

  • Groups change each half term, with staff mixing up the courses offered through the year

  • Across a year, children will engage in at least one half-term each of sport, arts, STEM and Community Heroes

  • Children have some ownership over their learning opportunities with an element of choice over which group they will join; although not all children will be able to participate in their first choice group each half term, we balance these opportunities through the year.
